The Venus and Serena Williams Tutorial/Tennis Academy has proven its ability to develop the tennis skills necessary for children to earn scholarships. Since 1995, eighteen students within the after school program have earned tennis scholarships to college. The aggregate value of these scholarships is over $1 million. Many programs provide introductory and intermediate training for inner-city youths. However, these children lack the resources and opportunities to develop beyond the recreational level. The Academy fills this void within Los Angeles by developing players' ability beyond the recreational level to the advanced tournament level. The cost of a college education is rising. To attend a top ranked university or college today can cost in excess of $150,000 for four years. Through a tennis scholarship students are given the opportunity to attend these prestigious institutions and more importantly graduate without incurring debt.
